David Rhys Jones, Artist

Based in Lewes, David Rhys Jones is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist working from his home studio. Trained at Central Saint Martins in the School of Fashion & Textiles, his career began in painting and printmaking before expanding into diverse sculptural forms. His practice spans metals, glass, ceramics, artist’s books, and public art, consistently uniting these media through printed imagery. Inspired initially by architecture and history, his recent work increasingly incorporates organic elements from nature.

Photography serves as a vital component of David’s creative process and stands as an independent practice. Notably, he captured film stills for the V&A’s Savage Beauty exhibition, focusing on Alexander McQueen’s formative years at Central Saint Martins. His design versatility also earned him a prestigious National Trust commission to create a bespoke merchandise range for Virginia Woolf’s former home, Monk’s House.

David has exhibited internationally, including at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Courtauld Institute, and the 2026 Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition. A winner of the Jerwood Contemporary Makers Prize and a Crafts Council Development Award, his work is held in prominent global collections, including Tate Britain and the Artphilein Foundation.
