Deborah Gourlay: Glyndebourne Paintings
3 May – 15 Jun
As part of Moncrieff-Bray Gallery’s annual Summer Exhibition, which is always a delight, the bucolic Petworth gallery will be showcasing a collection of works by Deborah Gourlay. Completed during her residency at Glyndebourne, these works take their inspiration from Joanna Parker’s beautiful Moorish sets for Il Barbiere, the whimsical fairy creatures of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the playful costumes of Saul, Cinderella and Rosenkavallier. Indeed, architectural space and design has long been of interest to Gourlay – her artwork made whilst in residence at Watts Gallery was inspired by the chapel there, and she has also completed work which drew inspiration from the dramatic interiors of a semi-derelict mansion in Hampshire. Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a wonderful show.
