Bourne & Allen’s Modernist Textiles, until April 14, 2024
This wonderful show of textiles and local history is meticulously researched and places Hilary Bourne and Barbara Allen where they belong in the history of Modernist design – about time!
The pair ran an internationally successful textile studio providing cloth for the likes of Liberty and the Royal Festival Hall as well as MGM epic Ben Hur.
Bourne was also the co-founder of Ditchling Museum, a project she threw herself into after the tragic death of Allen. Theirs is a fascinating story that we recommend you find out more about.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its big makeover, museum entry is FREE on Sept 23. There’ll be food, a bar, music, and loads of opportunities to get involved in crafts, including weaving, indigo dyeing and bookbinding.
