Net making and knot tying: Hastings, home to one of Britain’s oldest fishing ports, has a seafaring history that stretches back to Viking times. Local fishermen will demonstrate the intricate techniques of net making and knot tying, and explain their enduring role within their fishing industry.
Natural dyeing and block printing: Pattern maker and textile artist Sarah Burns revives ancient, sustainable processes, using natural dyes and hand-carved wooden blocks to create beautiful, zero-waste patterns. Her work reflects a deep commitment to ecological methods and historical traditions.
Basketmaking: Dominic Parette showcases the craftsmanship behind the iconic Sussex Trug – a traditional frame basket with roots in the 13th century. Using locally harvested materials wherever possible, Dominic’s work is shaped by the landscapes and legacy of Sussex.
