When we sent Brighton-based artist and author Chris Riddell some questions to answer, we figured he’d respond as most people in that situation do, by arranging to meet for an interview, or crafting his answers on the keyboard, and sending them back. Not a bit of it! Riddell, former Children’s Laureate (2015-17) is The Observer’s political cartoonist, the illustrator/author of countless children’s picture books, including Ottoline and Goth Girl, the creator of the card game Wizard Work and a dedicated poster of daily sketches on social media, but he still had time to respond in pen and ink, with hand-written responses illustrated by corresponding cartoons. ‘That’s not what we expected’, we emailed back to him. ‘It’s much better!’ You can find more of his work on Instagram and Twitter and buy his prints at cyclingfish.bigcartel.com
