We are delighted to be hosting a two-artist exhibition, Wellspring, featuring paintings by Arundel artist Andy Waite and London-based ceramicist Katie Moore.

Andy Waite’s work explores a drifted world, a departure from places we recognise, allowing fragments of elsewhere to move into the conscious, creating an untethered cartography of saturated colour through the alchemy of paint. Working and playing with the harmonics of colour and their nuanced resonances has been his life-long passion, driven by an irrepressible necessity. With no particular endgame in mind, paintings conclude over a period of days or weeks, where both journey and story slowly unfold to reveal the best resolution between Waite’s inner and outer landscapes.

Katie Moore unearthed her preferred way of creating while working remotely in a makeshift studio space, hand building coiled objects with different clay bodies and finding the technique incredibly freeing. During her ceramic studies she revisited themes explored within her illustration practice which inspired the development of a unique framework, that of the theatre, referring to her clay objects as props which she paints and directs on stage. Moore likes to document her surroundings through sketching, both by hand and digitally, using these visuals as guides for painting her raw clay objects. With a mixture of underglazes and slips to paint with, she describes the decorating and firing of the clay surface as an ongoing experiment.
