Myths and Annunciations: Cecilia Charlton and Charlotte Evans
20 Apr – 9 May
This exhibition explores the different ways in which two artists – Charlotte Evans and Cecilia Charlton – have derived inspiration from the same period of art history, namely the Italian Renaissance. Evident in their respective uses of colour and pattern, this shared preoccupation with the Renaissance is what unites Evans and Charlton’s seemingly disparate work. Beyond that, however, is where their paths diverge. Evans’ work takes a figurative form, bringing together the art historical and the autobiographical to create scenes dense with intrigue and allegory. Charlton’s work, meanwhile, has pattern at the fore, channelling energy and narrative through the use of geometric form. Don’t miss out on the chance to view these exceptional works.
