Goodwood Art Foundation
30 May, 2025 – 2 Nov, 2025

Hélio Oiticica, the Brazilian radical, turned colour into architecture. His Magic Square, shown in Europe for the first time at the Goodwood Art Foundation from July, is no mere installation: it’s an experience, a structure that demands participation, a riot of tropical geometry that pulses with life.
Reason alone, you’d think, to visit the new sculpture park and gallery, which opened on 31 May, and is filling a gap that has been left in the Sussex art landscape since the closure of the Cass Sculpture Foundation in 2020.
But there’s so much more besides. Rachel Whiteread contributes a sculpture to the Goodwood landscape, as well as a series of photographs in the gallery. Veronica Ryan provides two pieces, including a bronze made in response to the grounds of the foundation. There’s an immersive vocal work by Scottish artist Susan Philipsz, a pink pineapple bronze by Rose Wylie, and two works by the late Japanese American artist, Isamu Noguchi. Rather a mouth-watering line-up then. Be there, or be (magic) . Whet your appetite at goodwoodartfoundation.org
