Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines: A Radical Art School

16 Nov, 2024 23 Feb, 2025

Cedric Morris, Flowers in a Portuguese Landscape, 1968. Philip Mould & Company

Morris and Lett-Haines lived and worked together for 60 years in Cornwall, Paris, and Suffolk, where they founded the East Anglian School of Painting at Benton End. Prominent artists in their own right (though Haines subordinated his career to further that of his partner), they also nurtured many talents including Maggi Hambling and Lucian Freud. The latter is rumoured to have accidentally burnt down the first incarnation of the school. Learn more at charleston.org.uk
