The latest exhibition presented by Chichester’s excellent Candida Stevens Gallery takes the form of responses to the enormity of nature. Echoing notions of the Romantic sublime (which you may recall from school), painters Kerry Harding and Lucas Reiner sought not to depict the mere physicality of their subjects but instead how their sheer magnitude and scale interacts with the viewer on a sensory level. Each artist spent months at a time observing their subjects, incorporating the effects of factors such as weather and human intervention into their images.
