‘If one could but go to Brighton!’ exclaimed Mrs Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. The Prince Regent was an admirer of Jane Austen’s work and was said to keep one of her novels in every one of his residences. She famously dedicated the first edition of Emma to him. So what better place for us to step into the elegance, wit and charm of the Regency era and celebrate Austen’s 250th birthday? There’ll be decorations, costumes, carols, a family trail, and Austen themed activities that bring in favourite characters such as Mr Darcy and the Bennet sisters. Special events include a talk by Pavilion curator (and ROSA’s colour expert) Alexandra Loske, a carol concert in the opulent Music Room, a Christmas Cream Tea with a spoonful of Austen gossip, and a regal Christmas banquet.
