Karla Black is predominantly a sculptor but describes her work – fashioned from plaster, paint, paper and chalk, but also utilising cosmetics and toiletries – as ‘almost painting, almost installation, almost performance art’. She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2011, and has represented her native Scotland at the Venice Biennale. And now she’s got a show in Newhaven! Bravo to the NAS for bringing such a high-level artist to the south-coast town’s High Street.
