The latest series of work by the Laughton-based artist Alexander Johnson, is our favourite to date. Equally influenced by the Old Masters and punk iconography, Johnson reimagines figures and still lives by the likes of Velázquez and Zurbarán in charcoal, adding abstract swathes of colour to bring the characters and scenes into the twenty-first century.
