Sussex Craft Week Open Call: UNDOINGS Making and Unmaking in Contemporary Craft
17 Feb 8:00 AM - 17 May 5:00 PM

Presented by Sussex Contemporary
Part of Sussex Craft Week 2025
Undoings explores works on the threshold between the made and unmade.
This fascinating open-call exhibition invites UK-based makers, artists, and craftspeople to respond to the theme UNDOINGS. Our ambition is to present work by contemporary UK creatives and, in doing so, identify a shared aesthetic that characterizes the often overlooked artisanal workmanship of the crafts sector.
Focusing on objects and structures that are ‘handmade,’ using the traditional as well as the more ad-hoc craft techniques, the works that the selection panel will be looking for should be created using a simple, repetitive action, from simple repetitive mark-making, crochet, plaiting, weaving, and winding to stringing, shredding, binding, and crumpling. Drawing on a wide range of materials, colors, scales, and textures, the works can be as much bound together as they are poised to disintegrate. All mediums are welcome and encouraged to submit.
Returning to the exceptional BN9 STUDIO space in Newhaven, East Sussex.
Supported by Creative Newhaven, Towner Eastbourne, ROSA Magazine, and Lewes District Council.
The selection panel will be announced shortly.
