Janaina Tschäpe: Conversations with the Sea
13 Jun – 13 Sep

The New York-based German-Brazilian artist Janaina Tschäpe spent a wet, storm-lashed November in Hastings – an experience that fed directly into this new body of work, created for her first major institutional exhibition in the UK. Her large-scale abstract landscapes, all looping squiggles, tidal surges and violent sweeps of colour, are described by the artist as ‘forays into the geological state of the psyche’, blending the cosmic, the terrestrial and the deeply human.
