Tom Lee Gallery
Stand C3
Tom Lee has had a long career in commercial photography, with a specialism in interiors leading to many high profile commissions, including St Paul’s Cathedral.
Lee has always balanced his commercial work with a passion for black and white photography, producing evocative personal projects that celebrate landscape and nature. For ROSA Botanical Art Fair, Lee will present his Treescape collection, a series of images inspired by the book The Overstory by Richard Powers, which led him to the work of ecologist Suzanne Simard. Her ideas on complexity and communication in forests inspired the series, particularly the belief that a wood or forest could be seen as a single, living organism.
Lee has applied the same technique to his Treescape photographs that he uses in his commercial work photographing theatres, capturing detail from the brightest highlight to the deepest shadow. His aim was to capture both the wood and the trees through intense detail, creating complex images that celebrate community over the individual.
