Batemans

Batemans, an historic Sussex countryside house built in the 17th-century, was once the family home of the author Rudyard Kipling. Kipling’s home has remained in keeping with how he left it, with oak furniture, Persian rugs and unique artefacts reflecting his travels of southern Asia. Rewards and Fairies, written by Kipling at Bateman’s, consists of a range of short fantasy stories about two children living in the Weald of Sussex, and includes the oft-quoted ‘If’. Now protected by the National Trust, the stately home welcomes its visitors to wander the grounds and enjoy its beauty just as the Kiplings once did.
